He opened his "Sportsmens Depot"

in 1826. And advertised as Gunmaker, dealer in fishing tackles
and all kinds of sporting apparatus. Krider learned the gunsmith business at Prosper Vallee.
In McElroy's 1837 city directory he is mentioned as a gunsmith, working at Washington below
6th St. and living at S 2nd below Wharton, Desilver's directory of 1837 however named only
581 S 2nd as his address. Maker of Deringer-Style Pocket Pistols It is believed that he manufactured the first (25?) prototypes of the Le Mat Revolvers in 1859. They would have been marked MADE BY JOHN KRIDER, PHILA.
